A Little Secret?

Let me tell you a little secret - whenever you cannot understand a text, open your Bible, bend your knee, and pray over that text; and if it does not split into atoms and open itself, try again.

If prayer does not explain it, it is one of the things God did not intend you to know, and you may be content to be ignorant of it.

Prayer is the key that opens the cabinets of mystery. Prayer and faith are sacred picklocks that can open secrets, and obtain great treasures.

There is no college for holy education like that of the blessed Holy Spirit, for He is an ever-present tutor, to whom we have only to bend the knee, and He is at our side, the great expositor of truth.

~Charles Spurgeon~

The Superlative Excellence of the Holy Spirit

Christ crucified is of no practical value to us without the work of the Holy Spirit; and the atonement which Jesus wrought can never save a single soul unless the blessed Spirit of God shall apply it to the heart and conscience.

Jesus is never seen until the Holy Spirit opens the eye. The water from the well of life is never received until the Holy Spirit has drawn it from the depths.

As medicine unused for lack of the physician's prescription; as sweets untasted because out of reach; as treasure unvalued because hidden in the earth; such is Jesus the Saviour, until the Holy Spirit teaches us to know Him, and applies His blood to our souls.

~Charles Spurgeon~

The Church's Greatest Need!

The greatest thing the church needs now, is God's Holy Spirit!

You all get up plans and say, "Now, if the church were altered a bit, it would go on better." You think if there were different ministers, different church order, or something different, then all would be well.

No, dear friends, the mistake does not lie there, it is that we need more of the Spirit - His power and influence.

But now people are saying, "This must be altered, and that must be altered." But it would go no better unless God the Spirit should come to bless us.

You may have the same ministers, and they shall be a thousand times more useful for God, if God is pleased to bless them.

You shall have the same deacons, they shall be a thousand times more influential than they are now, when the Spirit is poured down upon them from on high.

That is the church's great lack, and until that lack be supplied, we may reform, and reform, and still be just the same.

We need the Holy Spirit, and then whatever faults there may be in our churches, they can never materially impede the progress of Christianity, when once the Spirit of the Lord God is in our midst.

All we need is the Spirit of God!

~Charles Spurgeon~
